Rachel Greiman: Copywriting Tips for Wedding Photographers

Rachel Greiman is a copywriter and documentary family photographer based in Denver, CO. She owns Green Chair Stories, a company committed to taking photographs and writing words that look and sound like real people. In this episode, she drops soooo many gems on how wedding photographers can improve the copy on their websites to book more clients that they love!!

She believes cookies are a perfectly acceptable breakfast food, as long as you eat some salad later. She lives with her giant dog (an 80-pound bernedoodle named Bernadette), her giant husband (a 6’6″ man named Travis), and her currently little (but probably soon-to-be giant) babies in a bungalow in the city.

Good copy on your website helps you book clients that you love. But the truth is – copywriting doesn’t come as easily to some photographers. Rachel has years of experience in copywriting and shared so many gems on the podcast to help wedding photographers book their favorite clients!

In the simplest of words, Rachel describes copy as words that sell. She further explains that “when it comes to your website, it is the words on your site that are not content. So content is more like social media captions, blog posts… anything that you use to kind of warm up you audience to let them know what you do. Copy is when you are actually saying: here is what I do, here is how to hire me, here is why you should hire me”.

Rachel stresses that “your copy needs to be able to answer the question: what makes you different from the photographer down the street?”

Rachel’s one golden advice for photographers to improve their copy in just a day is to “think of your favorite client, open up your website and read through your site, at least your homepage, as if you were her (bride – who is usually the one looking for a photographer). How would she feel about it? And if you want to go a step further, send her your website… because if you write to someone you loved working with, it resonates with her, it’s going to get more people like her in the door.”
