How I Shot This (HIST) is a platform that focuses on wedding photography education. It is founded and led by destination wedding photographers Melli & Shayne. Not only do they share their own images and insights with the photography community (all avalaible on the free plan), but also get a number of talented photographers (a mixture of free & premium content) from all over the world share everything that goes into creating an incredible image: the techniques, skills and secrets (well, no longer secrets at this point!).
HIST offers free education as well as an option to become a premium subscriber. Subscribing allows you to:

Melli & Shayne have been successful in building a destination wedding photography business in the past few years. Upon reflection (over a glass of wine) about they types of wedding photography education availabe and what it takes to create an incredible image, they realised that there is information missing beyond the types of equipments and settings photographers use on a photo shoot. They saw a need and importance of exploring other factors such as the: composition, focus, editing, lighting, story, and the direction from the photographer. Melli & Shayne realised that there is nothing out there that truly disects how an image is created and that is how How I Shot This (HIST) was born – first an Instagram account, then a website … and at one point in the future, they plan to develop an app.
It is important to not that the insights that they share is beneficial not only to new photographers, but also for seasoned professionals.
On HIST, you can find:
HIST focuses on being fair and transparent. From the very beginning, they ensured that it is not a plaform that just makes money from other people’s work (exposure doesn’t necessarily pay the bills). Therefore, they make it clear that they pay everyone that submits photos and/or blog posts to the platform. They have a Benefits & Deals section were people can list their products/services (e.g. presets).

HIST recently launched a videocast (podcast coming soon) – so far they have had the pleasure of having conversations with: Ginger’s Eyes, Paraguassu Fotografia, and The Kitcheners.
Looking ahead, Melli & Shayne plan to incorporate more and more diverse generes of photography to the platform. e.g. landscape photography, portrait photography etc… We can certainly all learn from one another. I am excited to see all that is to come…
